Clock/Timezone Media Workaround, Anyone?

Max R 6 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles updated by Tushar Arora 4 years ago 4

While we're waiting for a clock tile with [hub]timezone support, I was wondering if anyone's come across a media source for a bitmap/videostreamed clock in any given timezone? All I'm looking for is having a tile display the current Pacific Standard Time no matter where I am in the world. Any suggestions?

Thermostat Tile: Custom icon & colors when actively heating or cooling and for excessive heat or cooling

Computer Helper 5 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles updated 4 years ago 4

I can't find where to change the thermostat icon

I would like the tile to show red when actively heating, blue when cooling

Show a flashing red or blue when a "setpoint" is hit. Flashing red above 75 or flashing blue below 66

I have Smartthings setup to notify me if my tenants are turning the heat up.

Thank you,

Mike

Ideal Android tablet setup?

Denis Shelston 4 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 1

Trying to setup my Android tablet for ActionTiles exclusively. I purchased Fully.

Now how do you suggest I only install what is needed for this ONLY task.? FULLY to run ActionTiles. Android devices need a Google account for setup and access to my Play Store, ie install my paid Fully . But it also sets up email and other stuff I really do not need or want on this tablet, like email alerts and so on. Any sugg suggestion on best practices?

Steal 5vDC from 24vAC thermostat for wall mount Tablet?

myoung84 7 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones updated by Morgan Young 4 years ago 15

I just started using AT, love it so far. I'm considering mounting a tablet to start experimenting with. I'm building a house next year, currently finalizing the design. I'll be doing all the low voltage installation so I need to know pretty soon exactly what I need for smart house items so I can run cabling as needed. I'd always wanted to do a wall mount tablet in a few locations and I think AT will fit the bill.

So for now in the current house, I don't care to dig into sheet rock to run cables for power then have to repair before we sell the house, but I still want to play, mostly to get the wife on-board and so I'm not having to experiment on the new place.

I have a perfect spot downstairs right above or next to my nest thermostat. I do have 5 wires to the nest so I have 24VAC with common available.  I was thinking of a AC to 5VDC buck converter mounted inside a picture frame with the tablet. I could poke a small hole in the wall from the nest to behind tablet. Has anyone ever done this? It shouldn't pull more than a half amp at 24VAC...

I'm not sure what size AC transformer is in my HVAC system, it's a Lennox system about 2 years old. Also not sure how much power the nest requires.

Help: Using Dakboard as Fully screensaver?

rlburkes 7 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by Raf 4 years ago 28

I’m having issues with Dakboard and the screensaver. It doesn’t seem to appropriately size the content, so it’s pretty poorly laid out (most content is offscreen) it looks fine in other browsers on the fire so it seems to be related to fully. I was wondering how you had Dak configured assuming it looked good for you?

I found out my issue, Fully has an option under  Settings > Web Zoom and Scaling  for “Use Wide Viewport” which was on . Turning that off fixed my issue with Dak as the screensaver.

Change all Icons of the same Type at once?

Batman 6 years ago in Colors Icons Fonts Themes updated by ShaggySS 4 years ago 5

Is there a way to mass change icons? I want to change the on and off icons for all my switches, but it's getting tedious to do them all manually. Am I missing an easier way? In themes maybe? I'm not seeing it.

Set colors on a per-Tile basis

Stuart Salmon 7 years ago in Colors Icons Fonts Themes updated by Steve 4 years ago 3

The new theme builder is a welcome addition, but is still rather limited.  How difficult would it be to give us granular color control over individual tiles?  I, like many here, use simple actuators and virtual switches to control or report on a variety of different functions that we might want to color code by type.

How do I set a PIN code for just one tile?

mr smith 7 years ago in Security updated by John VG 4 years ago 7

I have a Tile that is a switch for our Whole House Fan. It can be accidentally tapped and I want to prevent this - especially if there is a fire going in the fireplace. It seems like I could set a PIN code for it but it seems I have to set a pin for the entire panel? I'd rather not have to set a PIN for the entire panel. Any ideas?

Answer

Correct, Captain!

The Panel's "PIN" is applied and only activated on a Tile-by-Tile basis. So perhaps you enable it for SHM, Locks, and special Switches like Fireplace.

Support for Hubitat?

Armand Welsh 7 years ago in Things & Capabilities / Non-"Works With SmartThings" devices updated by brumster 4 years ago 132

I have a license for ActionTiles that I only just did a minimalistic setup of to POC wall mounted tablets as an interface to my smart home. I am writing to officially ask if ActionTiles can be enhanced to support Hubitat.

I would love it if This system could be migrated over to support it, and will happily buy another device license for that system.

Armand

Answer

Hubitat has created their own specialized web-app which mimics a lot of the functionality of ActionTiles. We're happy to see that product continuing to evolve and attract interest.

Realistically, we have plenty of consumer facing and non-consumer facing SmartThings related development to focus on before we can even consider diversion of resources to a niche platform. SmartThings is our birthplace and it is the platform of all our supportive customers' homes. The Votes on this Topic indicate that the future is open to many possibilities and the door remains open to anything ... eventually.

Automation tiles instead of Scene tiles?

Mike Thomas 4 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 1

I'm rearranging my scenes & automations in SmartThings. Right now my ActionTiles panel refers to a single scene (called "Bedtime") that turns some lights off, locks the doors, and starts a countdown (using power allowance on a virtual switch) to turn on the interior cameras and turn off the last light.

I am planning on splitting that scene into several individual scenes - lights off, lock doors, cameras on, because that just make sense (to me anyway) as the individual scenes can be used for purposes other than bedtime.

The problem is, a SmartThings scene cannot call another scene (so I can't have a master scene that calls the 3 individual scenes).

I can, however, use a SmartThings automation (I have one already, it runs at 10pm if I forget to run it; I would modify it to call the individual scenes rather than the single Bedtime scene).

BUT - it appears that ActionTiles won't let me call an automation - is that by design?

Thanks.

Secondary "distress" PIN or other Panic Buttons

Derrick Ho 7 years ago in Security updated by anonymous 4 years ago 9

I have ActionTiles with a panic button that will set off the alarm manually.

I would like this to be easy to turn on, but harder to turn off.

I would like this panic button to have no PIN requirement when turning on, but require a pin to turn off.

A scenario plays in my mind...

A bad guy enters the house and I am in it... so I press the panic button in hopes to scare the bad guy off....

but the bad guy sees my ActionTiles -- and I have several of them throughout my house always on so that I can monitor my house from anywhere without having to wake up my devices -- He sees the panic button and presses it and the siren turns off.  Now he can rob me in peace!

This is why I ask for such a feature so that I can set off the alarm easily, but when the bad guy tries to turn it off he will see a PIN screen... he will try to enter something, but will give up.

What are your thoughts on this?

(p.s. I have a Samsung Smart things hub.  I know that I could use a routine to get allow turning on the siren but no way to turn it off.  However, routines don't have the ability to customize the color to Red, nor do they have the ability to show an with an interactive style.  Tapping a routine doesn't change it visually, but a button does and I would like that.)

SmartThings scenes look different and don't appear in ActionTiles

rsantone 4 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 45

I had a few, I guess "routines" in the ST Classic. "Goodbye" turned the heat down and set the mode to Away. "I'm Back" turned the heat up and set the mode to Home. Apparently something in these prevented migration to the new app so i deleted them and remade "Scenes" that did the same thing. They look different in the app, and don't show up in ActionTiles. What can I do? I've attached a pic.

Answer

The native Scene integration was rolled back on October 18 until farther notice. It will continue to work for those who already authorized their locations.

Meanwhile the following workaround remains available:

https://support.actiontiles.com/knowledge-bases/8/articles/8740-how-to-use-new-smartthings-scenes-with-actiontiles

The method described above is sub optimal, however it's the most "user friendly" method to integrate the scenes. It's much less involved and dummy proof than running a scene via HTTP webhook.

A High-Visibility option for Elements Theme

WAJ 7 years ago in Colors Icons Fonts Themes updated by bilfrost 4 years ago 2

I prefer the Elements Theme, as it shows different colours based on the thing i.e light bulbs, sensors etc. what would be nice is if i could have the elements theme to show the tile as, for instance light green tile background when the bulb is on but a darker green tile background when the bulb is off, a bit like the Cobalt (High Visibility) Theme. i guess what i am saying, is there any chance another Radio button in the tile settings--> tile intention could be added to reduce the colour of the tile from a light shade to a darker shade, so visually you can see if something is off from the tile itself.

Fire HD 8 landscape rendering

Matthew Barnes 5 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Amazon Fire updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 5

I’ve set up a panel for a new Fire HD8 I just got. It’s got some very strange rendering issues. The edges of tiles and text on some portions get very jagged and illegible. It only happens in landscape orientation and seems to be related to whether or not you have to scroll to get to the bottom of the panel. I thought maybe it was the tablet but I started ActionTiles on a Fire HD8 that my kids have and it does it too. I have ActionTiles running on multiple iOS devices and a Fire HD10 and have never seen this issue. Any thoughts?
