Activity Event history for Things, Tiles and Panels

Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 8 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Event History updated by Jer Granzy 2 years ago 61

I have created this Topic as a home base to discuss this Feature Request Idea which has been coming up a few times on the Forum and Helpdesk.

Background:

  • The SmartThings App offers a "Recently" tab when you look at the detail of a Thing or a Room.
  • SmartTiles has an "Event History" Tile which listed activity (status change) events for all Tiles on the entire Dashboard in a single list, ordered most recent to oldest.
  • SmartTiles allows developers to pull at most 7 days of activity history directly from their Cloud.
  • ActionTiles launched without this feature.

Why not already in ActionTiles?

  • One major factor in prioritizing what Features to offer at launch date was feedback from our tremendously helpful and valuable Beta testers. They used the product for months ... longer than we anticipated, since we found their ideas and recommendations to be compelling enough to implement some of them before launch.
  • Beta Participants have a private section of the Forum where they opened and discussed Idea and Bug Topics. We also sent out individual polls.
  • Event History was among the lowest popularity of all Feature requests.
  • They are a diverse enough group that we weight their opinions highly. This open ActionTiles Support & Ideas forum will bring us even more information to help prioritize.

What's the Current Plan?

  • We recognize that this feature may be "under-requested" at the present time, and yet would be highly valued by some customers.
  • Like every feature, it presents some challenges to implement. There are lots of design decisions to consider... We are already brainstorming!
  • When we're ready, we'll start with something basic, and then add enhancements based on your feedback.
  • Let's start by using this Topic to capture your Topic Votes and an open discussion of how you would personally use and value activity event history feature(s).

Thank-you!!!

Slideable Event Timeline

Eric Wright 6 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Event History updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 1

Hey guys, I wanted to put in a Feature request for a smart home timeline with a slideable method. The idea is to have a timeline for a full 24 hour period (customizable time frame) in which the user can slide a scroller right or left which will display a device and it's action. Specific devices can be added or excluded. This could give you an idea of not just what's happening 'right now' but what's happened in the last say five minutes, what's the progression? etc.

Here's an example:

Someone breaks into your house, but you weren't able to catch them on camera somehow. Maybe your camera was on the fritz or something, who knows. You don't know where in the house the burgler was at to do finger print collections. So, you turn to your smart home and look at the time frame you knew he was in the house, and you see he entered through the downstairs back door left window, set off the motion sensor, and then opened the kitchen cabinet. Now, he may have wiped off the kitchen cabinet, but he might not have wiped off the wall he had to of put his hand on to step over the baby gate, so you know to check the wall for prints, knowing that at specific time he went that way and then exited an entirely different way.

Just one example out of many, I think this would be a fantastic addition to the ActionTiles family.

Message/log tile?

MaxVonEvil 6 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Event History updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 1

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody would find value in a scrolling text log tile. I would like to see a feature where one could specify a large tile, allowing one to display messages from Smartthings. Granted, I haven't thought out completely how it might work and how messages would get sent. I just figured it would be great if AT could provide a scrolling field to display things like:

DD-MM HH:mm: Gate/Door X opened

DD-MM HH:mm: Gate/Door X closed

DD-MM HH:mm: Something else happened

DD-MM HH:mm: ...

This would allow one to glance recent events (of course depending on available font/space and and what messages one would choose to send). Let me know if similar is in the backlog already, otherwise, any takers to this idea?

Report or display timestamp of last Event for sensors, etc.

Jamin Dawes 8 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Event History updated by Kevin1 6 years ago 9

I don't need a full event history, but I would like to see a timestamp for the last event. Specifically, the last event for motion sensors and presence sensors.

Command "tap" History with Panel & Account logged

Erin775 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Event History updated 7 years ago 2

I see a major use in event history. If I share a panel to enable my gardener to switch the Smart Home Monitor on/off I would like to be able to see either the user or otherwise the specific panel that was used to switch the SHM on/off.

The user information in the log on SmartThings does not seem to identify the specific user.

Allow "sparklines" (miniature line-graphs) on Tiles to track/trend data like temperature

Tamathumper 8 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Event History updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 8 years ago 2 1 duplicate

Would it be possible to display a simple sparkline graph on select Tiles, so we could get a quick visual of variables over time, like temperature, humidity, lux, or even binary variables like open/close, or motion/no motion? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparkline This would save me from having to use InitialState or stream my events into Google Sheets to get charts.

Something like this (bad) mockup...
