Blank tile colors

Bergstrom, Gunnar 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles updated by Orange Bucket 5 years ago 3 1 duplicate

Can you please add options to the Blank tiles so the user can set colors to any of the colors used by Action Tiles. This would give the user some flexibility in filling in the black spaces when using the Elements theme.

Some sensors never change status

tlong 5 years ago updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 5 years ago 3

I have several sensors that won't update (motion sensors mainly). I have gone through and deauthorized everything, then reauthorized - and that fixes it for about 5 minutes. And the motion sensors on the Ring and Arlo cameras are hit & miss at best. I'm at a loss on what to do. It worked seamlessly until about 3 months ago or so.

Answer

Please try this (we need to make it a KB/FAQ):

  1. Using SmartThings Classic App: Automation / SmartApps / "ActionTiles V6 (Connect)" - UNINSTALL
  2. then in ActionTiles, My Locations / ➕, even if the Location (hub) is already listed.

SmartThings cloud has been sketchy and loses SmartApp preferences, we think. This resets it.

If still not working, contact Support@ActionTiles.com for further diagnostics.

Please don't wait 3 months!!!

Thanks,

... Terry.

Return to Favorite Panel or top of Panel upon timeout

Don Baldaccini 5 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by RonV42 5 years ago 5

I just started using AT and it's really fantastic. I am currently running it on a Galaxy phone and I was trying 3x3 size tiles which are great for the clock and a radar feed. When all the tiles don't fit on the display you have to swipe up or down to see them all. It would be great if you could have a setting that lets say after xx seconds of inactivity it swipes itself up or down to fully display the clock and radar feed or whatever you want to see as large as possible. Two 3x3 tiles display perfectly on the Galaxy phone in landscape position.

Answer

Hi Bryan,

The Clock Tile "uses" the System Time of your Tablet / Phone / PC; but relies on the browser's interface to the operating system (FireOS, in this case) to pass  in the correct current time, accounting for the Time Zone, DST, and so on.

My guess is that there is there is either an incorrect setting in FireOS (check your various date/time Android Settings for the tablet), or an obscure bugin FireOS that is perhaps triggered by a temporary glitch in GPS or Network "location services" (and thus cannot determine the correct Time Zone) or the change from Daylight Saving Time to Real Time.

My own Fire HD8 Tablet (and Fire HD7 Tablet) are showing the correct time (in Pacific Time).

So, please:

  1. Reboot the tablet (completely shut it down and turn it on again). That might be completely sufficient.
  2. Drag down from the top of the screen and press the GEAR to examine all the FireOS Settings. In particular, check the "Date & Time" section. I use "Automatic Time Zone"; but you may want to toggle this off and on, or even set it to off and manually select your Time Zone.

Please let me know what happens - though there may be nothing ActionTiles can do about it if we are accessing the system date according to the Javascript specifications.

Thanks,

...Terry.

Arbitrary Target window/frame ID option for Shortcut Tiles

Orange Bucket 5 years ago in Shortcut Tiles updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 5 years ago 0

The Shortcut Tile settings currently allow a choice between 'Open shortcut in a new window', 'Open shortcut in the same window' and 'Open shortcut in a dialog within the Panel'. The first two are essentially HTML targets '_blank' and '_self'. However what I'd find more useful than either is to be able to type in my own choice of target id. Here are my usage examples:

When using a web application the 'new window' option fires up a separate fully featured browser window so being able to use the 'same window' has some appeal on occasions. However I display panels side by side in a frameset so I would need to break out of the frames. If I could choose my own id I would be able to have '_top' and achieve this. A variation would be to be able to reuse one of the other frames already on screen as the target.

I also use multiple shortcuts to link to things like arrival times at different bus stops. In this case a separate browser running can be quite useful. However what I don't need is a separate new window or tab every time. I would like to be able reuse the same tab or window. If I could choose my own id I could have e.g. 'buses' and then the same window would be used every time.

So my request is to add an option to the Tile Settings for the Shortcut Tile to allow an arbitrary target id to be typed in.

The Forgot Password link (sent via email after requesting it on the ActionTiles login page) just takes Customer back to the Login Page, rather than to a page to on which the Customer can set their password.

Move Tile Size and PIN code to Tileset level

TheChad 7 years ago in Configuration & Settings updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 5 years ago 0

It would be nice if the tile size and passcode settings were in the Tileset setting instead of the Panel setting...

For the tile size, I have a lot of tiles on a tablet...medium is too large, medium-small is too small...if I could use medium for one panel for my buttons and controls, and then create another panel in medium-small or even small for battery indicators (don't need them that large) that would be perfect!

For passcode settings, I want everyone in the house to have the passcode to control the alarm, but I don't want the bastards changing my thermostat.  :)  Having it on it's own panel or something with it's own passcode would be nice!

Can the screen be put to sleep at certain times and wake on motion or tap?

jnick 6 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Amazon Fire updated by J B 6 years ago 2

Hey AT community!

Fellow ST user/WebCoRE user here. I have been contemplating jumping on the AT bandwagon for a bit now and think I might finally bite. One question I have is regarding the possibility of using this in our master bedroom...

I think it would be a great addition to have full control of the house/check it's status from our bedroom but one concern I have is that when we sleep, there will be a bright glow of the tablet shining in the room. Is it possible to have the screen sleep or go blank between certain hours and only wake once there is motion?

Any help is appreciated!

My simple (<$10) mounting solution for Prime Day Amazon Fire Tablets

johnny2678 7 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones updated by Jimi 6 years ago 6

Finished product:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/1TkkDouiqfY7hBVz1

Parts:

Tools:

  • Phillips Head screwdriver
  • Drill w/ 3/16" metal bit
  • Hobby knife or box cutter
  • Fingernail clippers ;) - I'm sure others can find a more eloquent way to trim away excess rubber but they work.

Steps:

  • Unscrew the clip from the vent magnet
  • Separate what's left into 4 parts. The plastic backing, the metal magnetic plate, 4x round magnets, and the protective rubber cover.
    • You can dispose of the plastic backing (not shown below)
    • I recommend removing the magnet from the plate when drilling.  Otherwise they will pick up all the metal shavings.

Image 1092

  •  Drill out the center hole of the metal plate with the 3/16 bit - or whatever size is appropriate for your drywall anchors.
  • Clip away excess rubber around the center to accommodate your screw/anchor head
    • The screw/anchor head will sit flush on the plate when you feed it through the hole you just drilled, but it's too large for the hole in the middle of the rubber cover
  • Use box cutter to cut a small X in the middle of the protective cover - large enough so you can insert a phillips head screwdriver
    • tried to get a pic of the X but it doesn't show well

Image 1093

  • With the screw inserted into the metal plate, replace the magnets in the slots, and fit the rubber covering over the plates/magnet/screw head
  • Use a phillips head to screw assembled magnet mount into the drywall

Hope this helps or inspires other creating mounting solutions.  Sorry I didn't take more pics but I wasn't sure what I was doing until I finished ;) Enjoy.

Guest Mode enables panel?

LaNeve Home 6 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Sharing updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 1

Is there a way to enable a panel only while smartthings is in a certain mode. For example, we have the same guests come stay with us frequently. I'd like to create a panel for them to use when they are here but not let them screw with our stuff when not here.

One simple thing I thought of, would be to create a panel that has specific things for them (they don't need everything), but their guest accounts only work if the house is in "guest Mode". This way I don't need to activate their guest accounts every few weeks when they visit, and deactivate when they leave. All I need to do is set the smartthings mode to Guest Mode and then the panel works.   When they leave I switch to a different mode on smartthings and their panel doesn't work.

Is there a way to do this?

PIN input UI is slow

Derrick Ho 6 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 15 1 duplicate

the PIn UI can be improved.  It is currently not possible to enter a pin fast so it feels quite laggy.  I literally have to wait 0.5 - 1 second between button presses which is annoying.

Also because the pin ui only shows digits it is difficult to guess where the hit boxes begin and end.

Using Shortcuts to open other smart home / smart device Apps?

Jim2 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 11

Is there a way to add links to other programs not controlled by SmartThings app? Example "Rain Machine" (irrigation), "IControlAV5" (Pionner AVR), "Iqualink" (pool automation lighting) among others.

Can Shortcuts be used to run these?

No simple answer, Jim... just "sometimes & maybe":

1. First please reference our KB article (it's pretty lean at the moment):

2. Please check out these Topics related to this Question:

3. For real-technical info on Android handling of URLs launching Apps with have specified "Intent Handlers":

4. On Android, combining Tasker with this add-on "Tasker URL Launcher" sounds like it has potential, but I haven't tried it yet:

Run PIN Protected Routine Tiles without extra tap

Daniel Rosenberg 6 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 4

PIN Protected Tiles are useful, and sometimes bring up multiple options like (Alarm > Armed (away), Armed (home), Disarmed). But when PIN protecting a Routine tile, like "I'm Back!" we get a banner for "PIN accepted" on top and another on the bottom that says "I'm Back! with a "RUN ROUTINE" icon.

Image 2633

We've already told ActionTiles once we want to run the routine (by pressing on the tile), and then had 4 more touches for the PIN.

Would you consider an option (or default behavior) to simply run the routine at this point, rather than require a 6th touch by pressing "RUN ROUTINE"? (Which, doesn't actually look like a button, because it's not a highlighted mode, perhaps thanks to Material Design?)

I'm worried this will be a non-obvious last step to turn off our alarm for PIN users entering the house, since we've already gotten a message that the PIN was accepted and we can dismiss the dialog (with the X) without actually turning off the alarm.

Can't add *Panel* to Home Screen (Android)

Jim 6 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 4

I have in the past using Chrome on my Android phone added shortcuts to panels on my home screen. No problem.

Just created a new panel. I opened it in Chrome on my phone. Selected add to home screen. But the only thing it will add now is app.actiontiles.com. It won't add the panel address. And it also doesn't give me the option to rename it like it used to.

Anyone else seen this issue and know how to correct it?

Estimated Time Of Arrival

Orange Bucket 6 years ago in Things & Capabilities / Non-SmartThings APIs updated 6 years ago 1

I'd like to request that the "Estimated Time Of Arrival" capability be supported.

The capability has a single 'eta' attribute which is an ISO 8601 date so any implementation might like to allow a date format string to be specified.

The ETA has a wide variety of potential uses. There could ETAs for people. There could be ETAs of buses at stops, trains at stations, and planes at airports. There could be broader interpretations such as next appointments or medication times.

Basically it can be used for anything that needs a date and time and it is an 'official' capability.

Make Tile click result Toast notifications optional

In my opinion,:

  • A notification window is kind of redundant to the visual indicators of the tiles themselves.
  • Notification windows should be an option, not default.
  • And if one is displayed, the current length of time that the window is displayed is way too long.
Answer

We are planning to put in a preference option to allow the user to disable toast notifications.

Just for info, though: Per Alex (SmartTiles):

The toast notification was put in place for one specific reason: to prevent accidental clicks to remain unnoticed. While this does not solve "pocket dialing" it may help to detect a tap when a swipe or a scroll was intended.

Another important aspect of the toast notification is to confirm if and when a command was actually received by SmartThings. There could be a prolonged network delay, depending on the load on SmartThings cloud, but the toast notification will appear only upon successful completion of the command.
