Valve Tile needs PIN security protection

Dan Crandall 6 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 7

I find that the Tile Security option is not available for my Main Water Valve Tile. This device is a listed as Type: Z-Wave Water Valve. For obvious reason, I would like to not have this valve closed by accidental activation.

Have it to where screen shows action tiles and stays on.
Would like it to time out and with a tap come on straight to my action tile panel. I set to it to detect motion but that doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Cannot set Fully as Home App of Fire Tablet

kday 7 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Amazon Fire updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 7

I have a Fire Table HD 8 Gen 7 running Fire OS 5.3.3.  I don't see an option in the settings to set the Fully Kiosk as the Home App.  When I set Kiosk mode it only does it once.  After restart of the tablet I am receiving an error that "You only selected Fully to run "just once" as your home app.  Please select always."  There is no option to select Always or anything else to select in the settings.  After restart I can continue in Kiosk mode or disable it which is exactly what I do not want someone to be able to do.  Is there any solution to get the kiosk mode working always?

Answer

I suspect that limitations / lockdowns in FireOS / Fire Tablets prevent Fully from taking over at boot as the homescreen App.

It's an unfortunate limitation of getting such a high quality tablet at a bargain price.

I still suggest contacting Fully Support to confirm. Maybe they have a workaround.

Most Customers I know just have their tablets permanently plugged in and turned on and use the "dim:" screensaver setting in Fully. This works well for me.

Ability to change "intent color" for Routine, Clock, and Nest Dual Thermostat tiles

Andrew Brenner 6 years ago in Colors Icons Fonts Themes updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 1

As the title suggests, I'm asking if the developers could please add the capability for me to apply a theme's intent color style to any of the tiles.

Currently, it looks like there's no option to apply anything other than the info style to the routine, clock and Nest thermostat tiles, and this makes me sad.

I'd like to style some routine tiles a different color so that they stand out, but I can't do that now without also applying the same style to the digital clock and nest tiles I also have.

Switch Panel at time of day

Brandon Pines 6 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated 6 years ago 8

I would like to know if it is possible to change panels based on time of day

I am using fully as my browser.

Android Fire
Answer
Sam 6 years ago

This can easily be done with Fully's rest interface and webcore sending a web POST request to the tablet running fully browser. I have a similar setup to run a certain panel on the weekends and revert back on weekdays.

Requirements:

Static IP for tablet

Fully plus license

Remote admin enabled on fully

WebCore

Calling Skype person by Shortcut Tile?

Patrick McCabe 6 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 3

I used the suggestion of the example to call someone by creating a Shortcut using the string below:

But it doesn't call the person, it just opens up Skype. Is there a setting in Skype to force it to call the username I put in the string.

Thanks

Slide or Swipe into next Panel (like Windows 8/10 active tiles)

Peter 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 1 1 duplicate

Would be cool if the interface behaved like windows 8.1/10 metro style..... where you swipe left or right and it slides to another page/panel. You could set up each page as a panel, room etc.

Answer

I am not sure if it practical for us to support slide-in Panels or a Swipe gesture consistently in various browsers.

Supporting multiple "concurrently loaded" Panels via a tabbed interface has been requested. We might be able to introduce a header bar feature that could contain convenient access to selected list of your Panels.

In the meantime, please place Panel Shortcut Tiles wherever you wish to locate them for the most possible current convenience.

Video as screensaver Fully kiosk on Fire HD?

Daran 6 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Amazon Fire updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 4

Hi,

I love ActionTiles - running it very successfully with konnected alarm system. It's early days but I've got to grips with most things now.  The only problem I am having is getting the Amazon fire to show a full screen video from youtube as a screensaver and getting it to play automatically.  I can get it to go full screen but on the Fire it doesn't automatically play no matter what I try.  I want to show a nice video like a drone flyover of Norway or something equally spectacular.

Has anyone had any luck showing such a video specifically from YouTube?

thanks.

I gave up on youtube but did manage to get it working via imeo!!!

Here's a few examples... just change the number after "/video/" to the vimeo video of your choice.

I've got three in my list but it will only ever play the first one - if I take the "loop=1" off, if it gets to the end of the video it just sits there in vimeo.  It would be good it the playlist was randomized every time the screensaver is activated - can this be a feature please?

Integrate General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS)

tbarber4 6 years ago in Media Tiles / Weather & Traffic 0

Fringe case but used in many metro areas. Google Transit Feed Spec has a standard for transit times.

Not sure how the interface would look or the calls for specific stops would be handled (by actiontiles or a call)

Spotify, Fully Kiosk and AT

Neil Kaye 7 years ago in Shortcut Tiles updated by Daniel Grønbek 6 years ago 4

Hi seems like i've hit a dead end:

Ideally I would like to have URL tiles point to a playlist in spotify and start playing.

The perfect setup for me is to us Fully browser which unfortunately does not support Spotify. Chrome does but then there are issues with waking and full browser mode.

Has anyone had any luck using Tasker to launch apps in Fully kiosk?

For my problem i guess the sequence would be; when specific tile is tapped in FK it launches the spotify app. I can then navigate the spotify app and when I push the back button in the tablet  tasker pushes me back to FK

Thanks!

RESOLVED [2018/09/21 1215h-1300h PST]: ActionTiles Partial Severe Outage

Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago in Announcements / Outages updated 6 years ago 3

One of the key components of the ActionTiles cloud (outsourced to Google Cloud Services) had a major outage as of Friday Sept 21st, approx 12:15am-1:00pm PST.

We determined the root cause (a Google Cloud segment failed) and deployed a workaround within 45 minutes.

Please "Follow" or visit this Topic Post for updates.

We apologize for the temporary inconvenience,

...Terry & Alex.

PS: Please be assured that outages of this type have been extremely rare and short. Roughly only 5 times in 18 months; including issues caused by SmartThings platform full or partial outages, and sometimes from segments of our Google Cloud provider. SmartThings is generally super helpful in staying in constant communication with us and ensuring complete resolution, and Google has tremendous expertise in prompt resolution.

Microsoft Surface Tablet

myoung84 6 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 3

Is anyone using a surface tablet for actiontiles? I have an old surface pro gen 2 that I could use. May replace an old photo frame on an end table. Very happy with my wall mounted fire 7 playing photos as a Screensaver.

Last time I used it was when windows 10 launched and it didn't take kindly to the update (been a long time). I'd need to reinstall win10 from scratch, but wanted to know if a windows platform is a good idea before I go through the trouble?

Fire tablet can see tiles - Android tablet can't on local media tiles

Jay 6 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 3

I have a very strange issue going on and I'm hoping someone can offer up a suggestion to try that I haven't tried already.

I have some Media Tiles that get images from a web server on the local network.

My Fire Tablet gets these images just fine over it's Wi-Fi connection.

My Android phone and Android Tablet don't get the images over the same Wi-Fi connection to the local network.

Image 2666

Does the Fire do HTTP requests differently than Android?

Does Android block local requests somehow?  I can get to other web pages (on the local network over wifi) just fine with the Android browsers?

I'm open to anything at this point.

Thank you!

Jay

Screen Saver to use NAS Picture Folder

myoung84 6 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones updated by Jay 6 years ago 5

I tried Dakboard but I don't like the slow loading time from AT the Dakboard website. I would rather my tablet just cycle pics from a folder on my NAS. Is this possible? I played with folder sharing on my QNAP NAS but couldn't figure out how to get fully to point to it. I could just download pics to the tablet but I want my wife to be able to dump her preferred pics to a NAS folder and fully cycle them (I don't want to have to manage the pics, LOL)

Can we have an app to keep panel full screen and run on unlock?

Luke 7 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by callegari dreaming 6 years ago 8

Existing way of running the panels in Chrome (or other) browser doesn't seem to keep them in immersive mode (on Android). Any home screen shortcut created runs full screen, but not immersive on the phones and tablets I have tried. If we had a dedicated app that launches the page, it could be coded to always stay in immersive mode, rather than having to press the full screen button inside ActionTiles. It would also remain immersive after a link had been launched and returned from, such as to run Spotify. Such an app could also potentially have options to launch it immediately after unlocking the device, or set it up as a home screen app so that it can be a launcher to replace the home screen if the device was a dedicated ActionTiles device.

Scale or change units value of Power Meter

Orange Bucket 6 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 1

My Power Meter tiles currently displays power usage in watts, optionally with decimals. That's fine and dandy but for display purposes I'd find it useful to be able to apply a multiplier to the value supplied by SmartThings so I can use my own units. Those units might be kilowatts, ergs per second, horsepower, BTU per hour or (much) more likely my own user defined units which may differ for each device. With or without a multiplier it would be useful to be able to override the footer text for the tile.

There is also an ulterior motive, as using two of the less expensive available smart plugs in the UK (Hive Active Plug and Salus SP600) with the Zigbee Switch Power DTH to avoid using a custom DTH results in a reported power usage that is a factor of ten too low for whatever reason. So my choice of user defined units would 'correct' that. Again if I can't scale the value being able to have e.g. 'Power / 10' as the footer text would be a useful visual aid for me.

I guess parts of this may have the potential to fall foul of 'Works With SmartThings' in some way, but it is worth asking.

Alternate text for tile item name

mjg 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 2

Is there a way to have an "Alt tag" type of setting for devices?  Some of my device names are fairly long to help me identify them in other apps/scripting - for example "Window_KitchenNook."  Names like this are causing overlap on my panel.  I'm wondering if there is a way to have it display a different name on the panel?

Hopefully this isn't a duplicate, I did search but might not be using the right terms.

Ability to fix the State of a Tile via Long Press

PROEDGEBIKER COM 6 years ago in Media Tiles updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 6 years ago 5

The https://bondhome.io/ app has an awesome feature to "fix" the status of their tiles.

For example, if someone turns my fan light using the fan remote, my BOND app would not show as the light is on. In order to fix it, I just hold down any tile in their app (in this case the fan light tile) and it corrects the status of the tile.

So by holding it down it changes the tile from off to showing on without sending a command to the fan.

If a feature like that could be added for your tiles would be awesome.

Hope this made sense.

Answer

Thanks for the feedback / idea...

Some Feature Requests fall into the bucket of being too much of a "rare edge case" or have other practicality issues, that we are unlikely to give it much consideration. Sure... we'll keep the Topic open for a while in case we have underestimated interest and it gathers Votes or additional use-case comments.

So there's two concerns:

  1. "Long Press" is not a gesture option for a Material Design (and "Accessible") compliant web-app. Long press should reveal the text tooltip in most cases (like a hover with a mouse). I use Nova Launcher for Android, and, indeed, it recognizes all sorts of unique gestures, such as long-press and swipe-across-icon. We don't plan to add this hidden layer of complexity to ActionTiles; but it could happen in some far future generation. So if we offered special functionality like this, it would have to be via the standard Tile overflow menu (...).
  2. We know there are various types of Devices that do not relay their State Changes back to SmartThings (and, in turn, ActionTiles) when acted upon manually or via some other type of control like Alexa Voice. Even certain brands of Z-Wave light-switches may not report manual activation, due to a patent restriction from Lutron. Still ... we don't think it should be a household member's responsibility to "manually" fix or override the Tile State, especially since that still leaves the SmartThings Cloud out of sync (and thus the SmartThings App and any SmartApps that subscribe to the Device, etc.). Many Device Type Handlers periodically "poll" the physical device to determine if the State has changed and thus eventually update. In other cases, the displayed state is not critical, since if the fan has been turned "on" via remote and the Tile still indicates "off", simply tapping the tile twice will ensure it is turned "off" (i.e., first tap will switch the Tile to "on" and send the on() command to the Fan (which should be harmlessly ignored; and the second tap will switch the Tile to "off" and send the off() command to the Fan, resulting in the desired consistent state).

There is no mechanism in ActionTiles to change the State of a Tile without it having (a) been tapped, and/or (b) receiving a State Change Event from SmartThings.

Thanks,

...Terry.
