What is the red/blue Status dot on Switch Tiles?

AdamHLG 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 3

Image 1128

Hello - new user here.  I have a possibly dumb question regarding the above image.  I created a panel and some tiles using 'things'.  The 'things' are Hue lights.  The tiles work and I can turn the lights on and off.  I do not understand why some of the tiles have a red dot and some have a blue dot.  As you can see, all the lights are off.  The actual 'switch' on the tile will turn blue when the lights are on.  However these red and blue dots do not change.  The lights are similar in nature so I cannot figure out the underlying logic as to the different colors.  Thanks.

Answer

If you look closely, the dot is actually a tiny light bulb. It shows the currently selected Hue color.

If you tap on the overflow menu icon, it will bring up swatches to select a new bulb color.

Chart of ActionTiles Forum Topic Votes?

Nezmo 7 years ago in Feedback about the Forum updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 5

Is there a way for us to see the current voting 'charts?'  I'm interested to know what's leading in voting and how the features I've voted on are doing in the grand scheme of things.

It's great to see new releases and functionality increasing but so far nothing has been added that I'm interested in, lol.

Answer

Larger font size(s) are coming soon, in our next Release, v6.7.x.

Force row of Tiles to wrap?

Is it, or would it be possible to force a line wrap instead of relying on the browser size? Would be nice to tidy things up a little.

How does ActionTiles handle renaming devices in SmartThings?

Brian Beaird 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 7

I assume the devices in ActionTiles eventually pick up the new name automatically, but do we know how often this refreshes and if there's a way to force it to refresh the names?

How to get notifications of Release Notes, followed Posts, or other Forum Categories?

Nezmo 7 years ago in Feedback about the Forum updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 4

I totally missed when you added icon options a while back until I saw other posting images of Panels with the new icons.  Can we get notified via email when a new release is issued or, is that already a subscription option somewhere I've missed?

Answer

Hi Nezmo,

We may set up an additional email list for Release Notes and other Announcements, but, as you noted, this functionality is already built into the ActionTiles Forum.

  1. It wouldn't hurt to check the additional boxes for your desired categories, but I don't think it is necessary. If you click multiple times, you'll see the box change to a "-" (minus) to indicate it is excluded from the Parent Category.

  2. To receive notifications, you must also have the correct email notification options enabled in your User Profile.

    a. Click on your Avatar (N) in the upper right of the screen.

    b. Select "Notifications".

    c. Observe carefully the options at the top of the page. I would recommend at least the two highlighted options:

...Terry.

How do I display multiple Panels on a screen

thisotherdavid 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 4

This is a noob question but just signed up today.  Evaluating whether or not to purchase.  I've created three panels.  Added my things to those (simple: lighting, doors and locks, heating and cooling), now I want to display those three panels at the same time on my android tablet for my wife so she doesn't have to navigate smartthings.  I know this was the whole reason this was built, I'm just being stupid and missing this some how.  I did search the forum and knowledge base...

Answer

Multiple Tilesets can be displayed on the same web page, but not multiple Panels.

This is a good opportunity to use the Tileset Copy feature:

  1. Create a new Panel for your wife, but leave it empty.
  2. Go to the Panel Builder (edit) screen for one of the existing Panels, and select the Tileset Menu (the ... at the top of each Tileset) and select Copy Tileset.
  3. Choose your wife's new Panel as the destination.
  4. Repeat #2 and #3 until all the desired Tilesets have been copied to the new Panel.

Round off temperature decimals

bne 7 years ago in Configuration & Settings updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 4

Is the ability to round off decimals available? I looked at the SmartThings ActionTiles APP and did not find an option similar to what is in the SmartTiles (Connect) APP. Maybe I missed it somewhere.

Re-Add / replace Thing

Jim 7 years ago in Configuration & Settings updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 2

Not sure there's a solution for this. I had 3 devices go offline when my hub update occured. Had to remove, reset, and re-add. Even tho I used the same name I still had to remove the tiles and put them back in. Is there no way around having to do this? Had to redo several panels. Not a major thing, just inconvenient.

Switch tile is not updating when activated from another device/Alexa?

dhirtle 7 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 4

If I turn on a light via Amazon Echo or via another app (like Belkin's Wemo app), the switch tile on the panel is not updating to the "on" position. When you press the tile, it doesn't turn the light on at that point (because it's already on) it just make the tile indicate that it's on. Press the tile again and it will turn off as expected. Seems like it just doesn't know that the other app turned it on.

Also, same thing happens when turning a switch off via another device or app.

Answer

Your observations are correct... but this is not an ActionTiles bug; but we agree it is an inconvenience!

It is up to the Things to inform SmartThings that their state has changed. Once SmartThings is informed, ActionTiles receives an Event to update the Tile(s) on your Panels.

Some Things (device types) do a really good job of keeping SmartThings "instantly" posted with their Status, regardless of where the state change command came from (Echo, non-SmartThings App (WeMo, Hue, IFTTT), or even physical touch, etc.).

Other device types don't do such a good job. It's possible that SmartThings could code the DTH (device type handler) better to improve them, but in other cases, it's just not available in the vendor's API. In some cases, people run SmartApps to poll the device every few minutes, to "ask" for its status. Polling is discouraged because the vast majority of the time there has not been a state change, and so that is just a lot of wasted work for the SmartThings Cloud!

The best recommendation we can give is avoid this inconvenience is to:

  • Use only "Works With SmartThings"™ certified devices.
  • I'm not sure WWST certification requires all devices to report their state changes promptly... most, but not all.
  • Avoid the use of 3rd party Apps on devices that happen to not inform SmartThings of their state changes from 3rd party Apps.

Direct URL to view a specific Panel

Marc 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 14

With SmartTiles, we have an icon on our wall mounted iPad to launch SmartTiles. This way, it’s fairly easy for anyone to launch SmartTiles.

For ActionTiles, what would be the equivalent? What URL are we supposed to use to land on a specific panel; https://app.actiontiles.com/panel/xxxxxx ?

Sorry for the amateur question but I just want to make sure I use the best and easiest option.

Answer

Good question, Marc... I will add to KB.

Yes... Just bookmark / share the full URL that you are on when viewing the actual Panel.

It will be of the form:

https://app.actiontiles.com/panel/8b9208ea-this-is-panel-idd2a7205f22

Note: Though I masked the Panel ID above with "words", the URL is safe to share or lose ... because you or your Buddy needs to be logged in to ActionTiles in order to view the Panel.

Command "tap" History with Panel & Account logged

Erin775 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Event History updated 7 years ago 2

I see a major use in event history. If I share a panel to enable my gardener to switch the Smart Home Monitor on/off I would like to be able to see either the user or otherwise the specific panel that was used to switch the SHM on/off.

The user information in the log on SmartThings does not seem to identify the specific user.

License agreement too long

Greg J. 7 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 1

I was interested in the free trial for ActionTiles, but the license agreement was way too long. I got sick of studying it and decided to write this post instead. I noticed that the agreement makes me responsible for actions carried out by others in situations outside of my control, such as if someone hacks my account. :(
