Answer

No, you don't need a hub. A hub is only required for locally connected LAN, Z-wave or Zigbee devices.

There's plenty of devices that don't require a hub, such as cloud connected thermostat, WiFi outlets and lights. SmartThings refers to this setup as "Hubless Locations".

When it comes to ActionTiles licensing, each logical SmartThings Location requires a license. This includes Hubless Locations.

Presence Sensor with New SmartThings App

WillPierson 3 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated 3 years ago 2

Hi - I've seen some posts on how to create a tile for presence using the classic SmartThings app. How do I create presence tile using the new SmartThings app? It doesn't look like ST exposes this as a device, so what do I add?

Stock Ticker Tile

Corey 6 years ago in Things & Capabilities / RSS & Feeds updated by Leo Hart 3 years ago 14

While I realize that this may veer slightly off of the smart home control aspect of Action Tiles, I was wondering if it would be possible to create a stock ticker tile to compliment your other Clock, Weather, Weather Forecast, Calendar, and RSS News Feed tiles?  I use my tablets for both smart home control as well as a "one stop shop" for information and it would be nice to have a tile where you could display the current prices of certain stocks, funds, etc., and have the tile scroll through them (realizing that it would/could not be real time information).

I assume this would be low priority compared to all the other activities you have going on, but am curious whether there are others who are interested in a stock ticker tile as well.  Thanks.

Panel tile that also reflects smartthings status

Leo Hart 3 years ago in Things & Capabilities 0

It would be great if we could create a panel tile that could also be hooked up to a smartthings device for displaying status.  Example use case would be having a single tile for "Basement".  The tile could reflect the status of the lights and controls in the basement and when clicked go to a panel with detailed controls for that room.

Right now I need to create a tile for the basement smartthings status and a tile to link to the basement panel.  Having both in one tile would allow me to free up space for other uses and I'm guessing it's a common use case.

Thanks!

Support for Honeywell Wifi thermostats

Daniel Dekoker 4 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated 3 years ago 2

The Old Smartthings 3rd party device handler for Honeywell wifi thermostats through Honeywell Total Connect worked fairly well and I could integrate a working tile in AT.  There is now native support in SmartThings.  Shows up and operates perfectly fine in ST.  However, I cannot add the device to AT as it does not show up as an available actuator or sensor.  Can you please add?

By the way, love AT!

Can ActionTiles activate an Alexa Routine?

andysims 6 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Voice Monkey 4 years ago 12

I have several Amazon Echo Routines which I use to play music in my backyard. For Instance, I say "Alexa, Smooth Jazz" and the Amazon Echo connected to my backyard sound system begins playing my smooth jazz station on Pandora. How do I create an Actiontiles tile that will start this routine? Is this possible? I can find instructions for activating a SmartThing routine with Amazon Alexa but I can't find anything that shows how to activate an Echo (Alexa) routine with SmartThings or Actiontiles.

Show Current Light color in the Color Picker

Jeff Terrace 6 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 9

It doesn't look like the *current* color of an RGB light shows up anywhere on the dashboard. Even if you pick a color from the color selector, the next time you open it up, the color isn't selected. Am I missing something?

Answer

There's a bug such that only DTHs which also set the deprecated Attribute "color" in "#rrggbb" format will trigger the Tile to display the Color Bulb in the footer.

The updated Capability spec only requires Hue and Saturation to be set by a DTH, so we need to fix our code sometime for this.

We'll note this and leave this Topic open for related discussion.

Thanks for finding this little quirk!

...Terry.

Samsung TV not in Authorize Things list

Roy 7 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 5

I've added my compatible Samsung Smart TV to Smartthings, and reauthorized all my Things inside ActionTiles, but the TV does not appear in the list. Is this an error?

Authorise things lists - informative headings?

Inge Jones 4 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated 4 years ago 2

Am I right in guessing that the reason there are so many authorise things lists is that each one represents a capability or property?  If so, it would be good if each list instead of being headed "Select more things" actually had the capability or property name in the heading.

Anyone figure out a way to use Smartlife or Tuya devices with Actiontiles?

mastamind518 4 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by BrianP 4 years ago 6

Really love actiontiles but I have several smartlife outlets and switches that are not integrated into ST. Is there a solution for

smartlife/tuya devices with ST and/or AT?

SmartThings Routines being discontinued

levi 4 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 5

SmartThings is trying to phase out the Classic app, and has actually made it impossible to add new routines if you have deleted the existing ones in the Classic app. Is ActionTiles going to be adding Scene support? It seems like there is an API (https://smartthings.developer.samsung.com/docs/api-ref/st-api.html#operation/listScenes) which is what was noted as the original issue (https://support.actiontiles.com/communities/12/topics/2538-how-to-call-or-activate-a-scene-smartthings-scene-tiles)

Any word on this front?

Nexxhome Garage controlller

Mike Geldert 4 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 13

I received this garage controller for xmas and have set it up according to directions.  It's listed as "works with smartthings", and I've set it up in smartthings and it works great.  (shows current open/close status and will open or close the door by pressing the icon/button).

When I go to authorize this device in Actiontiles, it isn't showing up as a device.

simulated co2 sensor - highlighting

Mike G 4 years ago in Things & Capabilities / Non-"Works With SmartThings" devices updated by Kevin1 4 years ago 2

Hi,

I've created a simulated CO2 sensor DH (basically by butchering the simulated temperature sensor DH). This allows me to display a number in a tile without an associated unit (like degrees or %)

Is there any way I can set this so that at a certain value, ActionTiles can tell this is a warning condition and change the tile colour accordingly?

Put another way, how does actiontiles know when other DHs are in alert conditions?

Use case: I'm trying to create a summaries tab that tells me how many doors/windows  are open and how many lights are on and various other summaries so that I can have one sheet which gives me an overview of the whole house. (Summarising is being done in webcore). - so if there's one or more windows open I'd like actiontiles to highlight the tile.

I realise mine is likely an uncommon use case - but surely with any environmental monitor it would be useful to move into alert status once a monitor hits a specific high or low value?

Thanks

Compatibility with other platforms?

JonnySax 6 years ago in Things & Capabilities / Non-"Works With SmartThings" devices updated by Glen 4 years ago 16

wow!  this seems like a beautiful way to have quick intuitive access to my smart home controls.  Its just a shame it only works with SmartThings ... Is there any plan to expand to other smart home platforms?  I specifically use Axial Control with an Aeon Labs stick on a windows PC, but I'm sure owners of other hubs would love to have AT as their visible interface.

Answer

We've actually answered this dozens of times, so I'm just leaving this open for discussion until I get a chance to merge or paste in any existing answers.

ActionTiles is not a portal app. It is the #1 Dashboard Panel builder for SmartThings, which, in turn, is the #1 smart home platform, which, in turn, can intergrate with hundreds and hundreds of devices (Things) from many different vendors. It would take a significant distraction and diversion of our resources to integrate with "other platforms". Not saying it won't ever happen; but this is further down on the to-do list than Features which will benefit our thousands of existing, loyal Customers.

Capability Window Shade - Rolling Shutter Tile type

Zvika 5 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 10

I installed Fibaro roller shutter and in Action Tiles it shows as type "Switch".
This means that it will show the open percentage of the roller shutter correctly but it will show OFF only when it will get to 0 %.
So even when the roller shutter is 3% the status will be ON .

In SmartThings it shows closde as I set the open/close offset to 45 %.

This make a confusion as I see it as open but it's not open .

Is there a way to make this the same as SmartThings status ?

Capability Color Temperature control

Luke 7 years ago in Things & Capabilities updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 4 years ago 16 3 duplicates

ActionTiles currently does not support controlling Capability Color Temperature. This would be a useful addition, in order to adjust the white temperature of such bulbs, in the same way colour can be adjusted for colour bulbs.
