Local Video Uploaded to ActionTiles Server?

DrPyro2k 7 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 1

I run a local NVR (network video recorder), specifically Unifi Video, to record/manage several security cameras.  I have set the action tiles to grab periodic jpeg image (1 per second) from the local server.  However, I have noticed a significant amount of traffic being generated on my wifi network due to action tiles (way more than what I would expect by just updating SmartThings or pulling a single jpeg that is on the active screen).  It appears that ActionTiles is actually uploading the jpeg files to some internet based location. The reason I have a local NVR is that I don't want the images uploaded to the cloud, but ActionTiles appears to do just that. How can I disable this?

PIN bug when copying panel

Craig Thomas 7 years ago in Security updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 5

I copied a panel that had a PIN set up on it.  I then applied the PIN security to a switch on the new panel.  From multiple devices, the PIN pad popped up, but it gave a timeout error after about 30 seconds (Error: request timed out) and never did anything to the switch.  I went into the panel settings of the new panel and entered the PIN again, and then things worked properly.  I have replicated this twice.

BTW, I love the PIN option.  Thanks for implementing!

Logging into ActionTiles in iFrame with no keyboard?

Major 7 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 3

Hello All,

I have a quick question, I am trying to add ActionTiles in a MagicMirror project through an iFrame but am having difficulties authenticating.

How can I pass my credentials to the ActionTiles site? I've tried adding username:password in the URL after https:// but that doesn't work.

Thank you!

Major

Whitelist IP addresses for sharing without Login

Barry Murphy 7 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 1

Would be handy if we could white list IP addresses to dashboards so no login is required.

Answer

This isn't an option within our security architecture, and we resist doing anything to reduce security — people tend to want even more security, not less.

Login is only required once (or rarely thereafter) due to long lasting secure session cookie. That's the most convenience we can offer for now.

login not retained between sessions

Avi 7 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 3

I get prompted to log in every time I close my browser window.  This happens both on Chrome and Safari for Mac as well as Safari for iOS.  All are set to allow cookies and maintain sessions with many other sites.  I saw the entry in the knowledge base that states that you maintain sessions "for a long time" however something does not seem to work correctly - any idea?  I am currently on the 14 day trial.

Fingerprint Authentication

WB70 7 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 1

Now that SmartThings has added it. What if you had fingerprint Authentication for:

* Accessing Administration Console

* Accessing a Panel

* Accessing a Tile (instead of pin code)

License agreement too long

Greg J. 7 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 1

I was interested in the free trial for ActionTiles, but the license agreement was way too long. I got sick of studying it and decided to write this post instead. I noticed that the agreement makes me responsible for actions carried out by others in situations outside of my control, such as if someone hacks my account. :(

Alarm Panel - Exit Arming Delay

Peter 8 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 8 years ago 1

Hi,

Would be great if the security panel could mimic a standard alarm panel when arming the monitoring system on exit where it would have a 45 or 60 or 90 second arming delay so you can close up and exit  the house.

This is more convenient that the phone, as:

1. my phone isn't glued to my hand

2. good chance you will get distracted and forget to arm the system

3. Probably just and "old school thing"

I've sent as a feature request to smartthings, but unlikely they will act on it.

Disable on/off switch, but still see Power?

ericdthomps 8 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 8 years ago 3

Hi everyone.

Long-time SmartTiles user... just found Action Tiles and and using my free trial.

I have some energy monitors / switches attached to appliances that I want to be able to see stats for, but NOT be able to turn off via panel = ex - Fridge

Is this possible?  If so, how do I configure?

Thanks in advance.  Eric

Answer

Nevemind, I may have figured it out...

It looks like I can just "remove" the switch tile, keeping the ones for energy (I'm dumb)

Really like the new features..  thanks again.  Eric

Shared Panels - Disable overflow menu button?

DanBac 8 years ago in Security updated 8 years ago 2

I was hoping by sharing a panel that I could have it run in what I would call "Kiosk" mode. If I could disable the "settings" icon at the lower right then it would be perfect.

I need a way for the general public to interact with certain lighting controls on an Android device but be able to do nothing else.

Answer

Very valid request, Dan...

And it is already implemented and available in the "Panel Settings" options ☺️!

SmartThings Authentication "All Things"?

Adam 8 years ago in Security updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 8 years ago 1

So, I noticed, when adding my things to ActionTiles, that I had to manually select every item, before it's presented to ActionTiles. The Alexa SmartApp Authentication page has the option to allow access to "everything" without having to individually select items... would this be a possible future enhancement?

Answer

Very astute observation, Adam.

You've discovered an unfortunate fact...

SmartThings has internal APIs to functionality that they have not given to external developers. This includes the "Allow Access to all Things?" option in web services connector SmartApp authorization page.

They have some legitimate security concerns about this feature; so perhaps we need to earn some extra trust. Hopefully they will grant us access to this (or similar, or better) ... someday.
