Ecobee thermostat questions

Chuck Enright 7 years ago in Things & Capabilities / Non-"Works With SmartThings" devices updated by Leads Rating 7 years ago 3

I have an Ecobee3 connected to my SmartThings hub and have created two tiles. One tile for the dual thermostat and another for the remote sensor. When I use the tile to adjust the temperature the ecobee responds almost immediately, as seen through the ecobee app. However if I use the ecobee app to set the temperature back to its original setting the tile does not update unless I force an refresh through the SmartThings app.

  1. Is there a tile thing to force the SmartThings refresh?
  2. I cannot find a tile thing to view the main ecobee sensor. I have the remote sensor tile already added. How do I add the main sensor?

Hi Chuck,

Ecobee is not listed anymore on the "Works With SmartThings"™ webpage, so I'm presuming it is not a WWST certified device. That limits how much support we can provide.

  • Which DTH (Device Type Handler) are you using? Have you tried any alternatives by SmartThings's Community developers?
  • We don't have a refresh Tile. WWST devices are supposed to refresh themselves when their state or attributes are updated.

Hi Chuck,

The problem you are describing is very common for Cloud-to-Cloud integrations. Some state changes that are performed outside of SmartThings take a while to propagate to SmartThings cloud. These delays are implementation specific and are apparent for other prominent integrations, such as Hue, Sonos and Nest.

ActionTiles is made aware of device state changes as soon as SmartThings is aware. It often makes sense to limit interaction with cloud devices to only SmartThings clients, such as SmartThings Mobile App or ActionTiles. This way physical state of device does not get out of sync with the state as seen by SmartThings.

I've experienced the same thing with my Ecobee3 Lite and Ecobee3! Hope the same won't happen with Ecobee4. Otherwise, I'll hep to shift to a different manufacturer!
