Photograph Tiles

Den 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles updated by Tamathumper 7 years ago 13

It would be great to be able add a few of my favorite photos to my panel. At least a 3x2 would be great! A picture from a local folder or even off my Google drive could be selected under the Media Tile menu.

Have you tried just pasting a full image URL path into a Media definition (including a Google Photo URL, I think...); using the "static image" (still image) option?

  • The dimensions might be skewed, but the basic functionality should work.
  • I just created a Media from Google Photos, by right click on photo a "Copy Image Address" of the form:
https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNlF_s-N_FjtUMdwoRS7RAwrF4m0FUOzeiu42zK

I tried what you suggested but only get a blank tile. I am on an Android tablet.

What happens when you use the image URL in a plain non-ActionTiles tab or window?

The image is opened and displayed by my Photos Android app.

Same results on my Windows 10 laptop with Chrome.

How can it be "the same result" on you Desktop? You don't have the Android Photos App on your Windows 10 Laptop?!

I mean, please test opening the photo URL in a plain tab. Paste the URL here please, so we can see the format.

What I meant was that there is just a tile displayed on both my tablet and my laptop that only shows the Media label but no image. I emailed the above link to both devices and the image was displayed on both.

OK.

I guess ActionTiles isn't currently compatible with images directly served from Google Photos. Sorry.

Did you try my suggestion below?

I don't use Imgur.

Alternatively, you could upload it to imgur.com and they have the ability to display different size/dimensions of the same file.

In this example you would select the size from the bottom, i.e. Large Thumbnail and then click copy on the Direct Link and paste that into the link on AT. You'll probably be able to get something proportionate that looks good.

ActionTiles does work with Google Photos, but you have to get the right URL format.

Open Google Photos, and click on the photo you want. It will open a large version of the photo with Share / Edit / Delete icons in the upper right. Ignore them.

Right-click the image and select "Copy image address" (in Chrome) or whatever option your non-Chrome browser has. Paste that URL into a media tile set to GIF, and it'll pop right up.

It may stop working after a day, as some Google Photos URLs are only good for 24 hours. I'm not testing that.

Other platforms may work with long URLs if you just type an extension on the end of the URL. Ones that are known to work with Google Photos are .jpg, ?.jpg, and -tmp.jpg.

There is also an extension to get a direct link to a photo on Google Photos. It is in the Play Store as Google Photos Direct Link.
