Custom height (aspect ratio) for Tiles to use all vertical screen space?

Any way to be able to have a custom width and height or aspect ratio for buttons? Currently my panel layout works perfectly on my 7” fire tablet but on my 8” fire tablet there is a big space on the bottom of screen. Would be nice to be able to fill the screen by customizing the aspect ratio of the layout.

Tiles are square and screen are not, so; yup... it's hard to find the perfect common denominators for tile size and tile spacing to fit any particular screen and that same Panel's settings aren't likely to work out for an exact fit on a different sized screen.


There have been a few suggestions of how to improve this:

  • Allow the "screen dimensions" to be set per Panel and thus force wrapping, etc., and just center it on the screen with blank margins. This would center your HD7 Panel within the larger HD8 screen.
  • Allow a Panel to be copied with custom Tile size settings, but retain all future changes to the source Panel. This is pretty complicated.
  • And now... Allow for the grid to actually be "rectangular" to some degree, by offering an override for Tile height.

This is an interesting idea. I don't know if it is practical for implementation, though. The layout of elements in a Tile gets troublesome if we can't count on it being always square. But note that changing the height is easier than width.
