Are you planning to add Stringify or IFTTT support?

webCoRE and Virtual Switches are great. Thanks again for the help!

Thanks, Ari.

We think at this time those tools makes direct external integration with IFTTT (etc.) unnecessary. As webCoRE evolves, we will figure out if there are advantages to providing Tiles or Features that take advantage of the various API hooks they may provide.

Waiting for Customer
  • Stringify has been purchased by Comcast and likely has no future history as a "public" App.
  • What exact functionality would you like to get from "IFTTT support / integration"??

Thanks,

...Terry.

That sucks. Comcast does tend to kill good products. I want to be able to trigger routine like functions that can't be done using routines. Here is an example:

I blink the lights 3 times when I want my kids to come upstairs at night.

I could trigger from an IFTTT webhook that then triggers a Stringify Flow, but that navigates me away from Actiontiles.

1 more thing. Do you have a solution for viewing a web page within a tile? my daughter is diabetic and we monitor her glucose using a web page. It would be AWESOME if you could display a web page that updates at a defined(~1 minute) interval. I tried scraping the page and publishing as a gif, but did not get it working.

BTW. Actiontiles is awesome. I have given demos to ~15 friends and 3 of them have already purchased hubs and are building systems.

Thanks for the compliments, Ari!

Regarding IFTTT / Stringify Flow Triggers:

  • Our official answer for external integrations is to use a Virtual Switch or Virtual Momentary Button in SmartThings and place that Tile in ActionTiles. IFTTT & Stringify can subscribe and be triggered by Virtual Switches.
  • Alternatively, a different rules / automation engine is worth considering:  webCoRE is becoming super popular. We do not yet directly trigger "Pistons", but the Virtual Switch scenario is still applicable.

Regarding "viewing a web page in a Tile"

  • That's a great idea and thanks for the glucose monitoring as a sample real-world use case.
  • This type of feature has been requested a few times, but we do not have a solution in the works just yet. Making ActionTiles a portal to various bits of information, perhaps certain formatted web pages, etc., is non-trivial, but the value is obvious.
