Direct URL to view a specific Panel

Marc 7 years ago in Panels (dashboards) updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 7 years ago 14

With SmartTiles, we have an icon on our wall mounted iPad to launch SmartTiles. This way, it’s fairly easy for anyone to launch SmartTiles.

For ActionTiles, what would be the equivalent? What URL are we supposed to use to land on a specific panel; https://app.actiontiles.com/panel/xxxxxx ?

Sorry for the amateur question but I just want to make sure I use the best and easiest option.

Good question, Marc... I will add to KB.

Yes... Just bookmark / share the full URL that you are on when viewing the actual Panel.

It will be of the form:

https://app.actiontiles.com/panel/8b9208ea-this-is-panel-idd2a7205f22

Note: Though I masked the Panel ID above with "words", the URL is safe to share or lose ... because you or your Buddy needs to be logged in to ActionTiles in order to view the Panel.

It would also be nice to hide the panel name (at the top) since it's taking some real estate and providing n value in most cases.

The Panel Name isn't shown on the Panel; but Tileset names are ... just open the Tileset's Menu and select "Hide".

I would like the ability to have the link go directly to a usable panel without a login. I recognize the risk here, and don't plan to put anything in the panel that would be problematic. I'm using it for a dashboard on the wall and don't like having to login every time the page refreshes.

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Jon,

  • ActionTiles does not require you to "login" more than once if you do not "logout". The login session is very long lasting... like a Gmail login session, for example: Once you login to Gmail on a particular browser, even if you close the browser you don't have to login again.
  • Be careful not to bookmark / pin / Add to Home Screen the app's "login" page, however; i.e., not:
https://app.actiontiles.com/login

But rather:

https://app.actiontiles.com/panel/8b9208ea-this-is-panel-idd2a7205f22

I was trying to display on another device with a different browser. I couldn't figure out how to get the url. Finally had to write it down from the first device and type it in manually. The bookmark wouldn't work as it being a different browser.

Any easier way to have done this?

  • Couldn't you highlight and copy (to clipboard) the URL from the "first" browser?
  • Then you could paste into the other browser (or email it to yourself if you need to paste on a different devices), right?

We may be able to partially automate some of the above two steps. For example, we may be able to force the URL onto the clipboard and/or email it to you. But frankly, copy/paste of a URL from the browser address bar is a pretty fundamental activity that we hope most Customers are familiar with...

Yes and no. The tablet I was setting up was an old one and just bare bones. No email app, etc. I would have had to install more apps to do the copy/paste. I know how to do those things, just didn't want to install the apps. Typing the url was easier in this case. I just thought there was someway to go to my account and get to it that way.

Waiting for Customer

I'm afraid I don't understand, Jim...

  • Couldn't you login to the root of the app site on the target browser (app.ActionTiles.com), view the Panel, and then bookmark it directly from / within that target browser?

Thats the info I couldn't seem to find... going to app.actiontiles.com. And I didn't remember from the first time. My mistake, I just wasn't brain clicking.....:) I think it was the app part. I kept trying www.actiontiles.com and there was no login link there.

No problem Jim!

Alex is going to kill me because he has reminded me a few times (😓) to update our WWW page with a nice convenient "Login to ActionTiles App" button that will go to the "app.ActionTiles.com" address. Most visitors are still just signing up for invitations, so I was avoid the task and clutter; but ... it's time, isn't it! 😇

Thanks for the help. I should have realized where to go, but sometimes the simple things elude me. I was trying to make it too complicated. Unfortunately just the way my brain works. My wife is always reminding me of this...In a good way. Sorry for all the confusion.
