Improve Routine Tiles for light group toggling

DGHome 2 years ago in Panels (dashboards) / Special Tiles • updated by Terry (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 2 years ago 7

it would be really helpful to add some Light/lightbulb icons to the Routine panels. With smart things and Hue, the only way to group lights is with routines. Ideally you could even allowing to create a toggle with the 2 routines linked into one tile. That would give the best on/off behavior.

This is a good Topic...

JD Roberts of the SmartThings Community just posted a wish list for Samsung to improve their UI for light scene handling.

Not to derail the Topic (ActionTiles can make incremental improvements to Routine Tiles); we have thought of the possibility of a major featureset one day that could fit in the scope of the product...

1) A fast, easy and intuitive way to group devices together for synchronized on/off

2) A fast, easy, and intuitive way to group lights together in a "dim with me" Group to coordinate dim settings, color temperature settings, and RGBW color settings.

3) A fast, easy, and intuitive way to create scenes where different lights have different dim settings, color temperature settings, and RGBW color settings.

Thanks for the fast follow-up. I am going to test the Hue Reconnect Smart App which should expose Rooms & Scenes to Smartthings. I am not sure if ActionTiles will pick it up the new Devices.

So the good news is the Hue (Re)connect app pretty much resolved all my challenges. All rooms show as a simple light fixture which can be adjusted through your GUI. It was a a hassle to reconfigure all the rules, but it was well worth it.

That's great!

Please share a little more about Hue (Re)connect when you have a little spare time, please. Our community will love it. 👍

Lighting Controls Fixed!

If you are using ActionTiles and the Philips Hue system to manage your lights, I strongly suggest you try using the Hue (Re)Connect app with your Smartthings Hub. The (Re)Connect app was developed by CyrilPeponnet to improve the way Smartthings works with the Hue Hub. The updated App allows you to import Rooms (groups of lights) and scenes directly into your hub.

The advantage of importing a Hue Room into Smartthings is that it allows you to directly control multiple lights at the same time, including color schemes, scenes, brightness and On/Off. Without it, you can use Smartthings functions to group the lights together, but this only allows you to turn them on or off.

A simple Smarththings use case is I wanted to get my Living Room ready to watch a movie. From a functional perspective I want to change the settings on my TV and turn the lights down to 80% dim and configure the color for orange. Smartthings could handle the TV, turning on the bulbs and setting the dimmer, but no way to adjust the color. With (Re)Connect it becomes 1 Smartthings function (Movie Time) with “Living Room Movie” activating the Hue Scene.

As a side note, this makes my Alexa integration easier as well. Single command.

When you combine that with ActionTiles the consolidated “lights” function groups the room into a single function allowing you to adjust On/Off, Brightness and color. As seen below, the Kitchen lights actually represent 6 recessed lights easily controlled from the ActionTiles app. Additionally the Movie Time function as referenced above is now fully drivable from the ActionTiles app since it’s compressed into a single Smartthings Routine. Lastly, you can even import your Hue Scenes directly into Action Tiles. Personally I might make a separate panel for that to reduce clutter, but it gives you a way to avoid having to jump out to the Hue app.

Good luck and I hope you find this helpful. I was really struggling with the awkward behavior of having to operate lights using the separate buttons for On and Off for the group. For more information on the Hue (Re)Connect app, see the Smartthings discussion.

Is the Hu (Re)Connect app dead? I get a 404 from the link. Are there any other alternatives? I want to be able to control my light fixture as a whole, not as individual light bulbs.
