Echo hub installation?

Edison 2 months ago in Browsers Tablets Phones 0

Echo hub looks interesting but seems to require more power than my existing fire tablet, which runs off wiring from my previous alarm system. As it stands, Echo requires an ugly looking power cord running to a power outlet. Anyone got a better idea?

Solution for wall mounted screens

SteveP 4 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones updated by Doug Colt 2 months ago 20

Hi, i have been investigating a good solution for a touchscreen mounted on the wall. First idea was a tablet with nice looking wall bracket, but i hear it isnt really safe by having the battery plugged continuously, and removing a battery and just plugging into a different power source is not easy and not always working, from what i can find. So i started looking into either tablets or screens with and android OS that dont have a battery or a touchscreen that i can control with an external source. And here

I am getting a bit stuck, so i am wondering about the solutions you have at your homes and what kind of recommendations there are in the market.

Fire HD 8 - cameras not working with recent OS/App update

gpaitai 11 months ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Amazon Fire updated by Lisa 5 months ago 23

Yesterday I arrived home after work to find my tablet with a black screen. My assumption is an auto-update had turned it off after updating. I do have it sitting in the powered stand so it was fully charged.

Anyways, I have four cameras via TinyCam Pro web server that I can view within ActionTiles but only show two on my main view. These have worked perfectly for years until yesterday. I can view my cameras ok via Safari on my Mac & iPhone but not the Fire HD 8 tablet. Note the TinyCam web server is using http not https so I'm wondering if Amazon have decided to force this security in their update.

Has anyone else had encountered the same? Any suggestions or ideas welcome.

Answer

All of the issues serving video streams and images are due to browsers and operating systems enforcing Mixed Content policies.

Mixed content refers to a situation that arises when a secure (HTTPS) webpage contains elements, such as video streams or images that are loaded using an insecure (HTTP) connection.

More and more web browsers enforce strict security policies to protect users' data and privacy. When a secure webpage includes insecure content, it poses a risk and compromises the integrity and security of the entire webpage.

To mitigate this risk, modern browsers typically block mixed content by default. They either prevent the insecure content from loading or display a warning to the user. To maintain a secure browsing experience, it's important to ensure that all elements on a secure webpage are loaded using secure (HTTPS) connections. This can be achieved by updating the resource URLs to use HTTPS or by hosting the resources on secure servers.

ActionTiles does not host or process your local video streams and images. It is impossible for ActionTiles to upgrade connections to HTTPS.

ActionTiles cannot affect the browser and operating system and relies on them to display the content. There's absolutely nothing that ActionTiles can do to make the browser display content that the browser does not allow.

The Mixed Content limitation that is now imposed by modern browsers is not an issue that's unique to ActionTiles. Every web page and Progressive Web App is affected by this.

There are two ways to resolve this issue:

  • Serve content over HTTPS.
  • Configure the browser to allow mixed content. There are several issues with this option, since some browsers do not have this configuration or ignore it.

Broken image media tiles in Android

Jean 1 year ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by John Johnston 5 months ago 13

Referring to following topic though my post is only applicable to Android Chrome and Fully Kiosk browsers (both using android system webview version 111.0.5563.58) https://support.actiontiles.com/communities/12/topics/9592-images-on-media-tiles-are-not-loading-on-google-chrome-browser

It seems this problem started happening after the last android update (Samsung Tab A).

It seems http media tiles are no longer accepted in actiontiles. The (local network) http URLs display correctly if requested directly from the browsers, but seems to fail (broken link) when using actiontiles.

Is there a workaround for this? My ipcams unfortunately don't provide https interface :(.

The "Mixed Content Mode" switch in Fully Kiosk doesn't seem to help (this was also the recommendation from the Fully Support.

Any ideas welcome, I'd prefer to avoid having to set up an https reverse proxy.

iPad Kiosk app? Wake on front camera motion?

BigSlade 5 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Apple updated by alexanderroseen 6 months ago 16

I tried to search the forum for this answer, but could not find anything.  I was looking to create another smart panel for my house and have an iPad Gen 2 laying around and figured I would try to repurpose this.  Unfortunately I can't seem to find anything like Fully Kiosk that will wake up the screen on motion.  From the show me your tiles post I know there are a lot of people using iPads, so what are you using?  Or is the display just always on?  Thanks in advance.

Action buttons not working anymore on iPad 2nd gen

SneakX 1 year ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Apple updated by Feliz Lalof 1 year ago 3

Hi,

Been using ActionTiles for years on an old 2nd gen iPad as a weather station and lights control unit.

Since about a week the action buttons (dim lights, shut down lights, etc) are not functioning. Did something recently change in the software, I thought that the iPad 2 with Safari was supported (can’t install nothing else with the old iOS 9.x on it unfortunately).

Thanks.

Image displayed from BlueIris on my Android tablet quit working, but the same media tile displays OK on my iPad

TheLAD 1 year ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 1 year ago 3

Did Android change something recently to make this stop working.  For a long time I have had a media tile built to retrieve images 1/second from BlueIris my doorbell camera (EZVIZ).  The same media tile still displays fine on my iPad.  The media tile is set as a still image to this URL: http://192.168.1.xxx:yyyy/image/doorbell?user=samsung-tab-a&pw=?????????

Using Actiontiles with DockScreen android app

W_B 3 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated 1 year ago 2

Image 5992

I'm a long time Actiontiles user, who recently started developing an app called DockScreen Google Play

Its an app for keeping your screen on and viewing your notifications and news, it also has a webview that can display the Actiontiles web app..

It can also autoupdate websites so it solved that problem for me with Actiontiles.

I'm wondering if any actiontiles users will test it and give some feedback for further development..

Solution: Fire, Ring Doorbell, Fully, and Action Tiles

Willis 6 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Amazon Fire updated by AlanHoffman 2 years ago 193

I have seen a lot of questions related to the Ring Doorbell and Kindle Fire...I figured out a workable solution:

Sideload the Google Play Store onto the Fire (I used the instructions at https://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-your-amazon-fire-tablet/ )

Use the Play Store to install the Ring Doorbell app

Use the Play Store to install AutomateIt

Setup 2 rules in AutomateIt:

Rule 1:  On notification from Ring, run the Ring App

Rule 2:  On notification from Ring, run the Fully App with a 1 minute delay

AutomateIt will notify you that it needs permission to monitor notifications.  Allow that permission.

Start Fully, ring your doorbell, see your front porch, cheer, wait another half minute or so, and Fully restarts, conduct victory lap...and profit.

If you have motion detection turned on for the doorbell, this will also show your porch if something trips the motion sensor.

I am trying to log into my ActionTiles account to view a panel on my Apple Watch.

The AT login page loads fine. However, after entering credentials and pressing the "LOG IN" button, nothing happens. Other links on the login page seem to load fine, such as Forgot Password and Terms of Service.

Continuous charging issues

Michael700 3 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 3 years ago 1

Until yesterday I had two tablets with ActionTiles in my home. Both Huawei with different age and models.

Yesterday I noticed that the screen have popped out on the newest due to expanding battery. That tablet have been used for about four years for ActionTiles only. Today I checked my other tablet and the screen was bulging out, most probably also due to battery issues. That tablet have been in use for ActionTiles for about four years too but is older than that. About two years ago I had a similar issue with an older Samsung cellphone at the moment used for ActionTiles only.

I know that most cellphones and tablets are not made to be contentiously charged, but are there certain brands and models that can handle it better? Or are there other solutions to this problem?

Android 13 has broken Fully Kiosk on Samsung Tab

TheLAD 3 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 3 years ago 2

Recently updated my Samsung Tab A to Android 13.  Since then, screen does not wake up on camera motion or sound or touching the screen.  Only current solution according to FK tech support is to have the screen stay on 100% of the time.  I am worried about that burning the screen.  In the mean time I have resorted to just using Chrome to display the AT panel.  To facilitate ready access, I removed PIN protection on the lock screen so I only have to swipe to restore AT panel when the screen saver comes on.  Anyone have a better solution?

Ideal Android tablet setup?

Denis Shelston 3 years ago in Browsers Tablets Phones / Android updated by Alex (ActionTiles) (Co-Founder) 3 years ago 1

Trying to setup my Android tablet for ActionTiles exclusively. I purchased Fully.

Now how do you suggest I only install what is needed for this ONLY task.? FULLY to run ActionTiles. Android devices need a Google account for setup and access to my Play Store, ie install my paid Fully . But it also sets up email and other stuff I really do not need or want on this tablet, like email alerts and so on. Any sugg suggestion on best practices?
